A Brief History About Edwards Academic Coaching

Madera Edwards Ph.D. opened Edwards Academic Coaching in 2020 to help those who want to advance academically, from those who are behind and struggle with academics to those who excel and want to boost their academic performance. The service opened during the homeschooling days of the pandemic and has since helped hundreds of students advance and reach their educational goals. We have tutors for most subjects, and we are adding subjects each day.

A proud University of Michigan alumni, Dr. Edwards began her academic journey circuitously. The limited academic support she received in early education led to a lackluster performance in school through her Freshman year, as evidenced by her placement in high school remedial classes. During her sophomore year, a guidance counselor noticed her test scores were much higher than her grades; she surmised that Madera struggled in her remedial classes because she was bored. In sophomore year, Madera moved from remedial classes to an Advanced Placement track. She thrived and rode the success to a dual degree at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

But that wasn’t enough for the academically inspired future professor. She continued her education after UM and gathered three advanced degrees culminating in a Ph.D. in history in the early 2000s. She began a career as a college professor in 2002. This run would last nearly 20 years and end with her being the Director of Interdisciplinary Studies at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. She then left higher education on a mission to help students with their academic pursuits and dreams. Thus began the journey of starting Edwards Academic Coaching.

An Academic Coach is someone who helps a student achieve their goals as a student and person. They help motivate students by providing support for specific classes and tests, fostering growth, and applying specific methods to individual learning styles. Edwards Academic Coaching recognizes that each student is different, so we provide a plan to assist based on the student’s particular needs. We help with all subjects and tests and support every level of education: from early education to those pursuing advanced degrees.

Dr. Edwards takes pride in the services presented here and is determined to help your student find success. Her personal academic story demonstrates an understanding of the twists and turns of academic pursuits and academia. From being an underachieving student to finding success as a college professor, through her experience and tested methods for achieving academic success, Edwards Academic Coaching provides tutors who understand the difficulties of navigating school and life.
